Depeche Mode announce live album and film ‘M: Memento Mori – Mexico City’
Depeche Mode have unveiled their upcoming live album and concert film, ‘M: Memento Mori – Mexico City’, arriving on December 5. Captured during their sold-out 2023 shows at Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City, the release offers both a live recording and a cinematic exploration of the band’s deep connection with their audience.
Directed by Fernando Frías, the film—simply titled ‘M’—blends stunning concert footage with a visual narrative exploring Mexico’s cultural relationship with death and spirituality, themes that resonate throughout Depeche Mode’s latest album ‘Memento Mori’. The film will first screen in cinemas on October 28, before arriving in CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray editions in December.
Meanwhile, the accompanying live album will be available separately as a 2xCD and 4xLP vinyl set, featuring full concert recordings and four previously unreleased tracks from the ‘Memento Mori’ sessions. Among them is ‘In The End’, which drops as a standalone single on October 24.
Speaking about the project, Depeche Mode described ‘M: Memento Mori – Mexico City’ as a tribute to their fans and a celebration of the enduring spirit behind their music. The Mexico City shows, which drew more than 65,000 people per night, were among the most emotional performances of their world tour.
The announcement follows the recent release of Paul Kalkbrenner’s new single ‘Dreaming’, which samples Depeche Mode’s 2000 hit ‘Dreamer’—a rare, officially licensed use of the band’s catalog that underscores their lasting influence on electronic music.
