Ibiza deletes thousands of illegal Airbnb listings, removing over 14,500 beds
Ibiza authorities have removed more than 2,500 illegal short-term rentals – equivalent to over 14,500 beds—from Airbnb in a sweeping crackdown on unlicensed lodging. Ibiza’s Illegal Short-Term Rentals Taskforce joined forces with travel analytics firm Mabrian to carry out the operation between July 2024 and September 2025, removing 2,831 listings from Airbnb.
Among the properties removed were campervans, caravans, tents, cabins in unlicensed campsites, and traditional homes lacking proper rental permits. The operation targets “non-authorised” listings that skirt regulatory oversight and undermine legitimate accommodation providers.
Local officials originally announced the clampdown in February 2025, noting that collaboration with Airbnb would help speed the delisting of units operating in legal gray zones. Despite the Balearic government declaring Ibiza “100 % free” of unlicensed rentals, investigators recently uncovered an Airbnb listing for a van marketed at over €125 per night – aptly demonstrating how the issue persists at the margins.
This mass removal signals a firm stance from Ibiza’s regime to rein in the “sharing economy” excesses and preserve the island’s legal housing stock.
