Home Featured Intercord Records: The relaunch of one of the dance scene’s most iconic of labels

The beginning of a new chapter in dance music, Virgin Records Germany has rebranded as Intercord Records amid a partnership with the Universal Music Group.

With major changes a constant occurrence in the dance industry, it is with great excitement that we share the following news on an official scale, as one of the most iconic labels in the scene, Virgin Records Germany, has just relaunched as Intercord Records. A rebrand that comes courtesy of Universal Music Germany, a division of the Universal Music Group (UMG), this latest initiative celebrates both heritage and evolution, as it maintains the traditions of the past, but results in a fresh new chapter for this already established imprint.

Building on years of international success, the label has opted for a change in name that truly reflects their ethos and values, but also, creates awareness on what they aim to achieve in the future, whilst maintaining that individuality that ensures that they stand out from all the rest. A transition that comes following one of their most successful years to date, Intercord Records will look at expanding on the legacy that has been in place since the brand’s founding in 1966, where the likes of Depeche ModeErasureYazoo and Moby gained a wider audience within Germany thanks to this imprint.

“Intercord signals how far we’ve come and the next step in our evolution. We’ve built incredible momentum over the past seven years, and now we’re giving that success its own unmistakable identity – a brand that belongs to our artists, our community, and our future.” – Alexander Neipp, VP Marketing, Intercord Records

A stronghold for electronic music in Germany and Central Europe, Intercord Records has set out to make an impact from the offset, with the newly branded imprint having already signed the likes of LeonyRay Dalton and Alle Farben when just naming a few. A clear sign of what’s to come, the label has set out on reaching even further heights, and with the guidance of the UMG, there are some truly exciting times ahead for everyone involved. Going back to their successes as a whole, the label has achieved over 40 billion partner streams, whilst also breaking out major hits in the form of Mau P’sDrugs From Amsterdam’ and James Hype’s Ferrari,’ in addition to global anthems such as MEDUZA’s ‘Piece Of Your Heart,’ HUGEL’s ‘I Adore You’ and Topic’s ‘Breaking Me.’

“We built Virgin Records Germany into a powerhouse for electronic music. Now it’s time for the next step. Intercord is the name that matches our identity, our ambition, and our vision. The same team, the same drive – but with a name that reflects the success we’ve already built and the global impact we’re reaching for together with our artists.” – Magnus Textor, VP A&R Intercord Records & VP A&R CE Dance Electronic

Adding to the previous statement, Tom Bohne, the President Music Domestic of Universal Music Germany, shares the following thoughts on the rebrand;

“Intercord Records represents both evolution and continuity – a label deeply rooted in Germany’s musical heritage yet always pushing forward in sound and culture. This new chapter is a statement of confidence in our team, our artists, and the future of dance music in Europe and beyond.”

With a clear focus on “building long-term growth, international collaborations, and an even stronger presence” on a global scale, Intercord Records aims to shape the future of dance music in the most immersive of manners, and we of course, are all for it. Kick-starting this launch at the most fitting of times, the label will be hosting its annual Intercord Mixer at Soho House / Cecconi’s during the upcoming ADE week, so with this in mind, be sure to visit their official website HERE for further information on what’s new, upcoming events and so much more!
