Aphex Twin continues his resurgence among collectors as his 1992 release ‘Xylem Tube EP’ climbs into Discogs’ list of best-selling vinyl of October. Originally released through Belgian imprint R&S Records, the four-track EP has long been considered a cornerstone of early IDM and acid techno. Now, thanks to renewed demand and a fresh remastered pressing from October 2025, the record is once again dominating vinyl charts.

Released in June 1992, ‘Xylem Tube EP’ showcased a young Richard D. James experimenting with intricate synth work, abrasive textures and the hybrid techno foundations that would later define his legendary output. Although the tracks resurfaced on the 1994 compilation ‘Classics’, fans continue to seek out original and remastered vinyl editions—especially as Aphex Twin’s catalogue experiences renewed interest in the collector market.

The EP features four cuts that capture the raw energy of early ’90s rave culture. ‘Polynomial-C’ stands out with its spiralling arpeggios and mathematically precise sequencing, while ‘Tamphex (Headphuq Mix)’ pushes into hardcore territory, looping audio from a Tampax commercial in proper Aphex Twin fashion. On the flip side, ‘Phlange Phace’ and ‘Dodeccaheedron’ dive into darker, more experimental zones, highlighting the producer’s forward-thinking approach even at the dawn of his career.

As vinyl culture continues its global revival, Aphex Twin’s early releases have become essential items for collectors. Consequently, the new 12″ remastered edition—cut by Beau Thomas and issued once again by R&S Records—has surged in popularity, placing ‘Xylem Tube EP’ among Discogs’ top sellers for October.
