Armin van Buuren releases first acoustic album ‘Piano’: Listen
Renowned DJ and producer Armin van Buuren unveils his first-ever acoustic album, Piano, out now via Armada Music. The 15-track project marks a milestone in his career, offering a new perspective on the melodic foundations that shaped his sound. Alongside the album, Armin also released a one-hour exclusive DJ mix on Apple Music, featuring selections from Piano alongside compositions by Hans Zimmer, Jon Hopkins, and Ludovico Einaudi, further connecting the worlds of classical and electronic music.
Earlier this month, Piano premiered exclusively on Apple Music and Apple Music Classical as part of a special partnership. During Amsterdam Dance Event, Armin celebrated the release with an intimate in-store performance at Apple’s Leidseplein store and a playback session at Dolby Atmos House. In a reflective interview with Zane Lowe, Armin described Piano as “a return to stillness,” highlighting the personal and meditative nature of the album.
Across fifteen original compositions, Armin van Buuren masterfully translates emotion into melody, drawing inspiration from family, nature, and his lifelong admiration for classical music. Moreover, he spent years learning piano to deepen his musical expression, eventually working closely with composer Geronimo Snijtsheuvel to transform early sketches into fully realized pieces. Furthermore, the project came to life over seven days at ConcertLab in Utrecht, where each song was performed in one take and mixed in Dolby Atmos®, while also featuring collaborations with cellists, a chamber orchestra, and violinist Lisa Jacobs.
Armin explained, “After decades of festivals and trance, I longed for music without pressure – just fingers on keys. This album is my most personal work: from heart, to keys, to ears.” Watch the official performance of “Be My Lighthouse” here.
