DJ Mehdi documentary ‘Made in France’ set for global release in 2026

‘DJ Mehdi: Made in France’, the six-part documentary exploring the life and legacy of the late DJ Mehdi, will reach global distribution platforms in 2026 following its International Emmy nomination for Best Arts Programming. Although the series first aired in France last year, it now prepares for its international rollout after a wave of critical acclaim and millions of viewers.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Thibaut de Longeville, the series marks the first longform documentary to chart the rise of global hip-hop from a non-American perspective. Moreover, it dives deeply into the craft of beatmaking, breaking down Mehdi’s creative process through rare footage, personal archives, and interviews with collaborators who helped define France’s rap and electro movements.

Since its debut, ‘Made in France’ has reached more than ten million viewers and earned praise from leading cultural publications. Cahiers du Cinéma described it as a thrilling journey through 30 years of music, while Thomas Bangalter called it brilliant and deeply moving. Additionally, Kid Cudi hailed it as the greatest music documentary he has ever seen, highlighting its emotional weight and historical importance.

Throughout the episodes, the documentary features voices from Mafia K’1 Fry, Kery James, 113, MC Solaar, Diam’s, Pedro Winter, Cassius, Daft Punk, Justice, A-Trak, and director Romain Gavras, alongside Mehdi’s family. Together, they paint a portrait of a visionary artist whose influence helped shape French hip-hop and electro before his tragic passing thirteen years ago.
