Arturia Pigments 7 Arrives With New Filter Modes and an Updated Play View
Arturia has announced the latest version of Pigments 7. This follows Arturia’s habit of releasing new versions of its flagship softsynth annually. While not seen as a major overhaul, the release seems to have focused more on making small, meaningful changes.
For starters, three new filter modes – Rage, Ripple and Reverb – have been added. Rage modulates the cutoff to create saturated sounds while Ripple is a phase-based modulation filter. The Reverb filter has been described by Arturia as “timbre-thickening space and weight designed for modern bass design”. These filters can allow users to make more gritty, metallic sounds through cutoff and frequency modulation. Another new addition is the Corroder effect. A distortion tool which targets specific frequency bands using filters, it combines elements of noise and frequency modulation.
Pigments 7 also receives an overhauled Play View section. It now provides visual feedback for each sound preset based on its character. The synth also comes with 150 new presets, 50 new wavetables, 30 new samples and 20 new noises. In-app tutorials have been designed to make it easier for beginners to find the way around the plugin. Arturia claims that Pigments 7 comes with “updated default amplitude behaviour with smoother, S-shaped envelopes that reduce clicks and deliver cleaner, harder-hitting transients.”
On sale till January 6, Pigments 7 is available for $99 for new users, while an upgrade is free for all current Pigments 6 users. Also, all existing or new users have a special offer on all Explorations preset bundles, which can be claimed till January 6.
