Universal Music Group Partners With Splice on AI-Powered Music Tools

Universal Music Group and Splice have announced a new collaboration focused on developing the next generation of AI-powered music creation tools for artists.

The partnership will explore commercial AI tools built around creative control, sound quality, and respect for intellectual property. Both companies say the focus will remain artist-centric, with an emphasis on ethical and transparent AI use.

Splice’s existing AI-enabled tools will form the foundation of the collaboration. These tools are designed to support creators while maintaining control over rights and monetisation.

The roadmap also includes AI-powered virtual instruments and workflows that allow UMG artists to bring their own sounds into Splice’s ecosystem. UMG artists are expected to play an active role in shaping how these tools are developed.

The collaboration builds on Splice’s recent expansion across major digital audio workstations such as Ableton Live and Pro Tools. Over the past year, the platform has continued to integrate AI-native tools into everyday production workflows.

Splice previously signed the “Principles for Music Creation with AI” alongside UMG in 2024, supporting responsible and artist-first use of AI in music. The new partnership continues that direction, aiming to align innovation with creative trust.

AI’s role in music creation is entering a more defined phase. Recent announcements from major labels, creator platforms, and technology companies suggest the conversation is shifting from experimentation to structure. The focus is no longer just on what AI can generate, but on who controls it, how it is trained, and how artists are protected within these systems.
