Akai Pro launches $2899 MPC XL, Its Most Powerful Standalone MPC Yet
Akai Professional has announced the MPC XL, a new flagship standalone music production system.
Announced at the NAMM Show 2026, Akai MPC XL is the most powerful MPC machine to date. The MPC name carries serious weight, and for good reason. Since its debut in 1988 with the original MPC60, designed by Roger Linn, the Music Production Center has shaped how modern beats are made. What started as a $5,000 sampling workstation with 16 pads and limited memory went on to define entire genres, especially hip-hop, by making sampling and sequencing feel immediate and hands-on. From the MPC3000 and MPC2000 to the more recent standalone units like the MPC Live, X, and Key series, the core idea has stayed the same: a fast, tactile workflow that keeps you focused on making music, not staring at a computer. With the MPC XL, Akai is clearly building on that legacy.
Powered by a new Gen 2 8-core processor and 16GB of RAM, the MPC XL offers up to four times the processing power of previous MPC models. Running on MPC3 OS, it supports up to 32 plugin instruments, 16 audio tracks, and 256 voices simultaneously. A 10.1-inch tilting HD touchscreen sits at the center of the unit, paired with dedicated hardware controls.
One of the biggest updates is the introduction of MPCe pads, featuring 3D-sensing technology with four zones per pad for added expression and performance control. The hardware also includes 16 Q-Link knobs with OLED displays, a step sequencer, a performance touch strip, and the new XL Channel Command section for quick mixing and recording adjustments.

It features mic preamps with phantom power, dedicated instrument and phono inputs, eight individual outputs, USB-C audio and MIDI I/O, extensive MIDI connectivity, and 16 CV outputs.
The MPC XL comes bundled with a range of plugins, samples, and effects, including Native Instruments MPC Edition Play Series Analog Dreams and the Lone Forest Expansion. Akai Professional has also announced a new partnership with Spitfire Audio, with future integrations set to begin with the MPC XL.
The Akai Professional MPC XL is available now through authorized retailers, priced at €2,899.99, £2,499.99, and $2,899 USD.
