Home Featured Fugees producer and rapper John Forté dies at 50

Hip-hop prodigy John Forté was found dead at his Massachusetts home on January 12th, 2026, at the age of 50.

An artist that solidified his status among the greats of his generation and beyond, John Forté has been found dead at the age of 50. Regarded as a key figure in the New York hip-hop scene of the 1990s, the Brooklyn native left a lasting impact within the entertainment industry from the offset, whilst each of his endeavours also led to numerous accolades.

Reaching the very top from a young age, Forté first rose to fame when collaborating with the Fugees on their 1996 hit album ‘The Score,’ before continuing to tour with the iconic band as a rapper, as well as working alongside Fugees member Wyclef Jean, and his 1997 ‘The Carnival’ album. Moreover, the GRAMMY-nominated artist went on to release solo albums of his own, including ‘Poly Sci’ in 1998 and ‘I John’ in 2002, with his most recent work being ‘Riddem Drive’ in 2020, and ‘Vessels’ in 2021.

A musical prodigy by all means, Forté’s life was not shy of dispute and controversy, with a seven-year prison sentence also served as part of drug trafficking charges in 2000. Fascinating, to say the very least, local authorities have not yet determined the cause of death, and they confirmed no signs of disturbance at the scene. This is a tragic loss, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends during this time of grief.
