Alcohol consumption declines among Gen Z, study finds
With data collected on the regular, evidence suggests that alcohol consumption is declining significantly among the younger generations.
Facing the impact of a decline in alcohol consumption among Gen Z individuals, the industry in itself has now lost over $830 billion in the last four years alone. Indicating the approach of the younger generations towards alcohol, recent data confirms that health, moderation, and the overall well-being of us all is now the key priority.
Referring to the people born between 1997 and 2012, Gen Z has subtly but effectively taken the title of the “sober curious” generation, with most opting to either drink less, drink smarter, or in roughly 21-25% of the cases, not drink at all. A clear distinction between the previous generations, the alcohol industry is now facing clear challenges on the matter, raising the question of how to deal with such lifestyle changes.
A shift that is also visible in the nightlife and electronic music culture, there are numerous sober raves and wellness-driven events that take place, allowing the new generation to truly embrace our scene whilst staying away from alcohol consumption.
