Behringer BMX Brings the Classic Oberheim DMX Back at a Budget Price
Behringer has officially announced the BMX, its modern take on the classic Oberheim DMX Drum Machine. It has been teased since 2023 and is finally available for pre-order, with shipping expected to begin in May 2026. The launch follows the release of the JN-80, their recent Juno-60 emulation synth.
First released in 1980, the Oberheim DMX has been heard on many hit records from the 80s like “Every Breath You Take” and “Holiday”. The BMX aims to capture the sound of the original while giving the hardware a modern look, all at a much lower price than the vintage units.
The BMX retains the classic DMX drum sounds, analog filters, and an 8/12-bit sound engine. The added features include digital effects, an LCD screen, MIDI support, and 24 velocity-sensitive pads that are larger than they were on the original drum machine. Further, it also offers eight voices with individual level and pan controls, along with eight separate outputs for recording or external processing.
A built-in 64-step sequencer allows for pattern creation with features like step repeat, real-time recording, and track mute or solo. Users can store upto 256 patterns and 16 songs, arrange patterns into full tracks, and chain songs for live performance. Priced at $459, the Behringer BMX is available for pre-order now.
