Carl Cox releases James Brown remix for Black History Month: Listen
Carl Cox has announced the release of his contemporary remix of James Brown’s landmark 1968 anthem ‘Say It Loud – I’m Black and I’m Proud’, arriving on February 6, 2026 in recognition of Black History Month. Notably, the release places one of the most influential messages in Black musical history into a modern electronic context, while maintaining the song’s original intent and cultural weight.
Originally released during the height of the U.S. civil rights movement, ‘Say It Loud – I’m Black and I’m Proud’ became both a declaration and a rallying cry. Its call-and-response structure, funk-driven rhythm, and unapologetic affirmation of identity established it as one of James Brown’s most enduring statements. Decades later, the track continues to resonate across music, politics, and culture.
In this new interpretation, Carl Cox introduces contemporary electronic energy while deliberately preserving the urgency, vocal presence, and spirit of the original recording. Rather than reframing the message, the remix creates a dialogue between generations, connecting soul and funk heritage with modern club culture across techno and house spaces.
Alongside the main remix, the release includes multiple versions designed for both club environments and historical appreciation, pairing modern reworks with original and archival live material. As a result, the project stands not only as a dancefloor release, but also as a reminder of music’s enduring role in amplifying identity, pride, and collective unity across time and cultures.
