deadmau5 and Stevie Appleton come together for ‘SCIENCE’: Listen
It has been a decade since deadmau5 last released a full-length album, and fans are excited as the Canadian producer is building towards a new release this year. He continues to release new music, this time sharing a sprawling new vocal track.
One of the most incredible elements of a deadmau5 track is the subtle emotional and driving force that permeates all of his work. He doesn’t simply create dance tracks or radio hits; he uses every inch of his canvas to bring listeners into his world. Always entertaining to hear from, the producer simple said this regarding his latest single, “Steve sent the vocal through, thought it was neat so I made a track with it.“ That vocal comes from Stevie Appleton, a prominent singer and top-line writer.
Evoking the emotional power of past singles such as The Veldt and I Remember, fans will be instantly swept up in the pulsing melodies that counterbalance the driving percussion. Appleton dives deeper, saying, “I found there ended up being a nice simplicity in ‘Science.’ There was a lot more in the song before I cut it down to just four lines, each of which I feel like carry a certain feeling. Is it a dark energy, a loving one? It’s a bit of a mystery and I wanted to keep it that way. What deadmau5 has done with the production and the continuation of the songwriting is incredible. I’ve worked with a lot of big DJ/producers and gotten versions back of songs I’ve started on a piano, but this one was a different game. It should be a marker for the quality young producers are trying to achieve. I’m excited for the world to hear what we’ve made, especially the full 9.30m length version, it takes you on a ride like a piece of cinema.”
