Deezer to demonetize 85% AI-generated streams
Recently, major streaming platforms have been cracking down on AI-generated artists and streams alike. Spotify and Bandlab, the platforms leading the charge, have been joined by Deezer. In a statement released on 29th January, Deezer announced that it is set to demonetize upto 85% of all AI-generated streams.
As part of the release, Deezer provided more insight into how prominent AI-generated content has become on the website. It revealed AI-generated tracks are now roughly 39% of all daily uploads, with that number amounting to 60,000 daily uploads. Furthermore, it says that generating fake streams continues to be the main motive behind uploading AI-generated music. This can be seen clearly as 3% of the total streams for 2025 were for AI-generated music, almost 85% of these were fraudulent. Importantly, Deezer was the first streaming to explicitly tag AI-generated music. To help other streaming services do the same, it has also started licensing its AI-detection tool, which has been used by Billboard, among others.
About the decision, Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer said, “We know that the majority of AI-music is uploaded to Deezer with the purpose of committing fraud, and we continue to take action”. “We detect and tag AI-generated music and remove it from algorithmic recommendations, so that our users have a clear choice regarding what to listen to, while making it harder for fraudsters to game the system.”
