Visionary hip-hop producer and remixer Simon Harris dies aged 63
A leading figure within the British hip-hop and rap scene, visionary producer and remixer Simon Harris has died at the age of 63.
One of the most influential artists of his generation, British hip-hop producer and remixer Simon Harris has sadly passed away at the age of 63, following a battle with leukaemia. Sharing the news of his death, friend and Street Sounds founder Morgan Khan left a heartwarming message on the impact the “visionary music producer” had on his life, the people around him, and of course, the music industry as a whole.
A leading figure every step of the way, Harris began promoting hip-hop and rap music in the UK in the 80s, having previously worked as both a mobile and radio DJ. Co-founding the iconic Music Of Life label alongside Froggy in 1986 was the start of something special, with Harris acting as the promoter and mentor of Derek B, Hijack, MC Duke and Demon Boyz among others.
Adding to his musical legacy, the 1988 single ‘Bass (How Low Can You Go?)‘ remains the biggest hit of his career, with Harris also having remixed tracks for the likes of Prince, James Brown and even Elvis Presley. The ultimate artist, we would like to send our sincere condolences to all of Harris’s family and friends during this difficult time.
