Softube has unveiled the Weiss DS5 Multiband Compressor, continuing its collaboration with Weiss Engineering. The new plugin is built around the Weiss DS1 mastering processor, using it in a multiband format for greater control across frequencies.

The DS5 delivers the original’s power “to the power of five”, achieved through “line-by-line code port”. The plugin includes presets from mastering engineers Bob Katz, Jonathan Wyner, Maor Appelbaum and Philippe Weiss, which users can further refine to suit their mixes.

Staying true to Weiss’s transparency-first philosophy, Softube designed the DS5’s filters and compression to remain clean and accurate. The plugin uses phase-compensated 24 dB/octave crossover filters and they come in three modes: Dynamic Phase, Static Phase and Linear Phase. This has reduced pre and post-ringing artifacts to a “mathematical minimum”

The Weiss DS5 Multiband Compressor is available now at an introductory price of $449/€449 until 7 April, after which the price will increase to $549/€549. It is also available as part of the Weiss Complete Collection 3, currently priced at $899/€899 before rising to $1,199/€1,199 after the promotional period.
