Legendary New York DJ and producer Todd Terry plans to open a listening bar at Liverpool’s Tea Factory

After a long period of work, Todd Terry’s listening bar is finally nearing completion. The bar, named Freeze Hifi after his own record label, could soon open in the heart of Liverpool.

Freeze Hifi takes its name from Freeze Records, the record label of legendary American house DJ and producer Todd Terry. According to their announcement, they are very close to opening, and the bar is scheduled to open in the center of Liverpool, on Wood Street. More specifically, it will be located in the Tea Factory, the former site of the Revolution bar. This is practically a facility close to the famous Ropewalks Hotel and St Luke’s Bombed Out Church. Interestingly, about a year ago, someone on Reddit asked if there was a need for a listening bar in Liverpool, and although the feedback was mixed, it may have provided some inspiration for this.

Unfortunately, not much has been revealed about the concept yet, so the exact opening date and format are unknown. However, Andrew Duckworth, co-founder of the venue, has revealed a few behind-the-scenes details. It turns out that they do not want to operate as a nightclub and have only applied for a license until 4 a.m. on weekends. According to him, this was justified by “protecting the business”. This should reassure those who were concerned about noise pollution.

According to their plans, it would operate as a café during the day and a listening bar in the late hours. Interestingly, similar to Todd Terry’s vinyl-only label, Freeze Records, they plan to spin vinyl at the bar as well. This could be a good move, as according to previous research, vinyl is on the rise among Gen Z. They also hinted that they are not targeting techno in terms of genre preferences.
