Akai Unveils MPC Sample: A New Standalone Portable Sampler

Home Featured Akai Unveils MPC Sample: A New Standalone Portable Sampler

Akai Professional has announced the MPC Sample, a new compact sampler that brings its established MPC workflow into a portable, standalone format. The device combines sampling, sequencing, and effects processing, arriving at a time when Akai has been steadily expanding and refining its MPC ecosystem with frequent updates and new hardware iterations.

A compact MPC workflow

The MPC Sample takes clear cues from legacy units like the Akai MPC60, translating that approach into a smaller form factor. It features 16 RGB pads with poly aftertouch, a full-color display, and a reduced control layout. The unit ships with over 100 preloaded kits and includes a dedicated chop mode for sample-based workflows.

Standalone production focus

The device operates fully standalone, with an onboard sequencer, internal resampling, and real-time time-stretching and repitching. It also includes four internal effects processors with a total of 60 effect types, such as vinyl and tape-style processing.

Portability and onboard recording

A built-in lithium-ion battery offers up to five hours of use. The inclusion of a speaker and internal microphone allows users to capture and manipulate audio directly within the device.

Connectivity and storage

The MPC Sample includes microSD storage for user samples and supports USB-C for audio and MIDI connectivity. Additional I/O includes stereo inputs and outputs, a headphone jack, and MIDI support via adapter. These options allow integration with both DAW-based and hardware-centric setups.

The launch follows a steady run of updates across Akai’s MPC lineup, including firmware improvements and expanded standalone capabilities across devices like the Akai MPC One+ and Akai MPC Key 37. Over the past few months, the company has focused on tightening workflow efficiency and pushing standalone production further.

In that context, MPC Sample appears to target a more entry-level or mobile-first segment, while still aligning with the broader MPC ecosystem.
