Best New VST Plugins You Should Try Right Now (Synths, Effects & Free Tools)
February 2026 was a great month for plugin releases. We’ve had updates to FX bundles like Arturia FX 6, bespoke hybrid synths like Excite Audio’s Evolve Air, big-name collaborations between legendary artists and top-tier plugin makers, and a number of high-quality free releases that rival the biggest paid tools on the market. AI-powered plugins are becoming increasingly popular, whilst support for analog emulations is still strong, and we’ve had plenty of both in recent weeks. This article looks at the most notable releases from the past month, including some must-have freebies to add to your toolbox.
Arturia FX Collection 6
The latest version of the Arturia FX Collection brings the total up to 39 plugins that cover a wide range of corrective and creative mixing tools. The new additions are Efx AMBIENT, a spectral processing and feedback-based delay plugin for adding unique texture to your tracks, and Pitch SHIFTER-910, a pitch and formant shifting tool for reharmonising, which includes two different vintage modes for dialing in the tone. The collection includes everything you need for modern and retro styles of mixing, with emulations of classic analog gear and more modern creative effects for a futuristic sound. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a complete set of tools with a unique sound.

Excite Audio – Evolve Air
Released on February 25th, Evolve Air is the latest specialised synth from Excite Audio, with a focus on sample-based textures and morphing, evolving sounds. The core quad-engine lets you blend between four different sources to sculpt your sound or modulate it to morph between tones over time. With 250 presets, a host of built-in effects, ADSR and LFO modulation options, randomisation tools for happy accidents and a sampler for importing your own sounds, Evolve Air is the complete package for ambient pads, unique leads and experimental sound design. It’s not an everything-synth, but if you’re looking for deep texture, evolving soundscapes and a workstation built for experimentation, Evolve Air is a bargain at its current sale price of $39.

Mastering the Mix – Faster Master
Algorithmic mastering has become increasingly popular in recent years, with many DIY musicians and home-studio producers using tools like LANDR or iZotope Ozone for the final polish on their songs. Faster Master is the latest of these tools, offering an AI assistant for high-speed, low-effort mastering. The plugin analyses your track and offers ten custom starting points for reaching your spectral balance, dynamic range and loudness goals. Mastering the Mix worked with EDM legends David Guetta and Nicky Romero on this plugin, which is a good sign for anyone who prioritizes loudness and energy in their masters. The standout feature is the built-in level-matching to compensate for the changes that are made, which is key for avoiding the “louder is better” bias that can lead to poor decision making. The AI-first workflow won’t be for everyone, but the free trial is definitely worth checking out.

Sonnox – Oxford Drum Gate 2
Sonnox, best known for the Sonnox Inflator and Limiter, has just released the Oxford Drum Gate 2. Unlike many of their classic plugins, the Drum Gate 2 has an advanced UI for monitoring the changes you’re making, and boasts intelligent transient detection for precise gating. A good gate plugin is key for many studio tasks, especially mixing live-recorded drums, and the Oxford Drum Gate 2 is one of the best options on the market. The workflow is simple and the results are high-quality, letting you easily eliminate spillover from other sounds while maintaining the tone and snap of your drums. If you work with live-recorded drums, this could become your go-to tool for cleaning up and sharpening your sounds.

Analog Obsession – RazorClip
Analog Obsession is a fan-favourite for free, high-quality analog emulations. RazorClip is their first clipper, and it’s packed with all of the tone-enhancing and quality-of-life features you’d expect from an Analog Obsession release. It offers five different clipping modes (Tape, XFMR, BJT, Tube and Diode), each with its own saturation style and unique feel. There’s also a Blend knob, which when used at lower levels can transform RazorClip from a straightforward clipper into a versatile saturator. For managing harsh peaks, adding harmonic weight and recovering headroom before mastering, RazorClip is an excellent option. It’s high-quality, very flexible and completely free.
Ewan Bristow – ANINA
Ewan Bristow is an indie developer who makes innovative and unique plugins, most of which are completely free. It’s also worth mentioning that the paid options are extremely cheap, often between $5-15. ANINA is his latest work, a free dynamic spectral processor similar to spectral ducking plugins like Trackspacer or Soothe. It uses multi-band compression to accurately suppress harsh frequencies and smooth out your sounds. The sidechain mode ducks the loudest frequencies in the sidechain signal, which creates space and separation in your mixes without making broad EQ or dynamic changes that alter the character of your tracks. Quality-of-life options like spectral freeze and delta mode make it versatile and intuitive to use. I’d highly recommend picking this one up.

Sync Audio – MegaMod
MegaMod, which is also free but technically still in beta, is a “modulation host” plugin. The idea is simple but revolutionary; it can host any of your existing plugins, and allows you to modulate any of their parameters using its LFOs and envelopes. This turns static plugins into moving, evolving sounds, which is a big time-saver if you usually use modulation clips for movement. MegaMod turns modulation into a genuinely fun, intuitive process, unlocking the potential of your sounds and adding depth and interest to anything it’s attached to. This is another free plugin that I’d consider a must-have.
Artists In DSP – Amorph
Another ground-breaking free plugin, Amorph is a DIY plugin-maker that removes the barrier to entry from plugin design and lets you craft your own tools. The workflow is simple but totally unique; you start with a plugin idea, copy the prompt from within the plugin, paste the idea and prompt into a chatbot (use an AI with better coding capabilities like Claude or ChatGPT for the best results), copy the code generated by the AI back into the plugin, and click Compile. If the AI code is good (this sometimes takes a few tries), your plugin is ready to use. It can be a synth, a delay, a utility or anything else you may need, letting you craft bespoke tools for your sound and workflow. Keep your eye on this one; I predict that the Amorph community will keep growing, and soon we could see hundreds of open-source, homemade plugins that you can try out for free.
