Home News West Coast rave pioneer DJ Reza passes away, leaving behind a defining legacy

The Los Angeles and West Coast rave scene has lost one of its most influential figures. DJ Reza, a pioneering promoter and cultural architect behind some of Southern California’s most iconic electronic music events, has passed away.

For generations of ravers, Reza helped shape the DNA of the Los Angeles electronic music movement, transforming underground gatherings into large-scale cultural milestones. In fact, through his company Go Ventures, he created legendary events that defined an era of dance music across the United States. As a result, his work helped elevate the local rave culture into a movement that resonated far beyond the West Coast.

The architect behind Monster Massive and Together As One

Many fans remember DJ Reza as the driving force behind Monster Massive, the legendary Halloween rave that became a rite of passage for West Coast ravers for more than a decade. The massive event brought together thousands of fans every year, turning Halloween weekend into one of the biggest nights in the American rave calendar.

In addition, Reza helped build Together As One, Los Angeles’ iconic New Year’s Eve rave celebration, which ran from the 1990s through the early 2010s. Hosted alongside Insomniac Events at the historic LA Sports Arena—where BMO Stadium now stands—the event drew massive crowds and helped define the city’s electronic music identity.

Meanwhile, Reza also played a key role in organizing Love Festival, another cornerstone event that contributed to the rapid growth of the rave movement along the West Coast.

Beyond the events themselves, Reza earned recognition as a true architect of rave culture in Los Angeles. His productions transformed warehouses, arenas and open spaces into places where music, community and freedom flourished.

Following news of his passing, members of the dance music community shared emotional tributes online. “Monster Massive was my first dance music show. Rest in peace legend,” one fan wrote. Another reflected: “Together as One was my first massive in 2001. RIP LA rave.”

Others recalled the personal impact Reza had on artists and fans alike. One DJ shared: “I met Reza in 1999. He encouraged me to keep playing and even compared me to John Digweed. I’ll never forget him.”

While the lights of those legendary events may have faded, DJ Reza’s influence on the West Coast rave movement will continue to resonate for generations of dance music fans.
