Drumcode looks back: Adam Beyer picks the best tracks from 1996–2009
Adam Beyer hand picks the records that shaped Drumcode from 1996 to 2009.
Drumcode Records has just dropped something special for the fans. The iconic Swedish techno label is celebrating its roots in a big way, with Adam Beyer at the forefront. And it’s the kind of throwback that every techno head needs to see.
Adam Beyer himself has hand-picked the records that shaped Drumcode. The selection spans from 1996 all the way to 2009. That’s over a decade of raw, uncompromising techno history. The post is captioned simply: “Classic. Raw. Drumcode.” Honestly, that says it all.
So, what exactly made the cut? Let’s break it down.
Kicking things off from 1997 is Cari Lekebusch with Bråkstake, taken from DC04. That same year, Adam Beyer’s own Tasty Bits (D1) appears on DC05. Also from 1997 is another Lekebusch selection – Steka Å Hala (A1) from DC10. Three tracks from one year tells you just how important 1997 was for the label.
Moving into the late 90s, 1999 brings Gaetano Parisio’s untitled A1 from DC19. Dark, minimal and completely hypnotic. It’s exactly what Drumcode stood for at that time.
Then comes the new millennium. 2000 sees Adam Beyer’s B2 Untitled (DK Remix) make the list. Shortly after, 2002 delivers Constellation by Adam Beyer & Henrik B on DC25. A true collaboration between two heavyweights.
Fast forward to 2004, and Hardcell’s Ground Effect from the Swedish Steel EP earns its place. It remains a certified floor weapon to this day.
The later years are equally impressive. 2007 features Adam Beyer’s Swedish Silver in a devastating Joey Beltram Remix on DC34. Then 2008 delivers three massive picks. Par Grindvik’s Do Us Part (Len Faki Remix), Christian Smith & John Selway’s Total Departure, and Joey Beltram’s The Scorpion. Three very different records, all equally essential.
Finally, closing out the list is 2009‘s London by Adam Beyer on DC51. A fitting and emotional end to a remarkable era.
This is Drumcode history pressed into vinyl. Whether you lived through every release or you’re just discovering the label now, this list is absolutely essential listening.
