New plugin from Baby Audio, Grainferno turns samples into oscillators
Baby Audio has released Grainferno, a granular synth that they say is their “most advanced synthesizer to date”. With a new engine at its core, the synth uses granular processing to turn samples into playable sounds.
How does Grainferno work?
Using its granular processing engine, Grainferno lets users edit samples at a very high level of detail. It then generates grains at extremely high speeds — so fast that they “cross into the audio range and start behaving like oscillators”. These oscillatory grains can be generated using two independent audio sources, such as loops or samples, and users can morph between them in real time.
What are the key features?
Grainferno comes with a “deep yet intuitive” drag-and-drop modulation system designed for experienced users. However, features such as per-preset macros, six preset templates, and a sample library make it appealing for newcomers as well. An in-built effects suite inspired by Baby Audio’s other plugins and 300 custom presets designed by the likes of Virtual Riot, dnksaus, and Francis Preve are also included in the plugin.
Releasing today, Grainferno is compatible with all major DAWs across Mac and Windows, including Apple Silicon systems. Priced at $129, Baby Audio Grainferno is available at a special introductory price of $79.
