The Prodigy have honoured their late frontman Keith Flint with a new memorial bench placed at St Mary’s Church in Bocking, Essex, the area where the singer grew up and was later laid to rest.

The tribute arrived on the seventh anniversary of Flint’s death, marking a poignant moment for fans and the band alike. Flint passed away on March 4, 2019, at the age of 49 at his home in North End, Essex.

Sharing the tribute on Instagram, The Prodigy posted a photo of the bench alongside a message remembering their longtime bandmate.

“7 years on. Always with us on every stage and on every drop. Miss you every day brother – raise the roof.”

The group also thanked designers Jason Shorthouse and Paul Bullen from Free Range Designs, who created the memorial piece.

Inspired by The Prodigy classic, ‘Firestarter’

The bench’s design draws directly from The Prodigy’s iconic single ‘Firestarter’, one of the defining tracks of Flint’s career. The structure features a jet-black scorched oak finish and a distinctive silhouette inspired by Flint’s signature hairstyle, where he famously styled his hair into devil-horn shapes.

Designers described the project as both emotionally powerful and creatively demanding.

“It was essential that the entire piece was scorched jet black,” they explained. “Fire was not just inspiration – it was intrinsic to the creative process. ‘Firestarter’ blaring through the workshop as we burned and blackened the oak.”

Band founder Liam Howlett and manager John Fairs contributed to the design process, while Flint’s family approved the final concept.

Remembering a generational icon

For many fans, Flint’s impact extended far beyond music. As the explosive frontman of The Prodigy, he helped define the rebellious energy of electronic music throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

Following his death, thousands of fans lined the streets of Braintree during his funeral procession. That same year, artists painted a mural of Flint at Braintree Town FC, celebrating his unmistakable image and influence.

Meanwhile, The Prodigy, now led by Liam Howlett and Maxim, continue to carry the band’s legacy forward. The group headlined Glastonbury 2025 and are currently preparing for another global tour.

The new memorial bench now stands as a permanent reminder of Flint’s presence — not only in Essex, but across generations of electronic music culture.
