The Chainsmokers Backed ProducerAI Acquired by Google

Google has acquired ProducerAI, an AI music creation platform formerly known as Riffusion. The startup’s team is likely to join Google Labs, with parts of the group also integrating into Google DeepMind.

The deal was announced on February 24 by Elias Roman, Senior Director of Product Management at Google Labs through a Google Blog post. He described ProducerAI as a “creative collaborator” and that it has been designed to turn user ideas into fully developed songs. The acquisition comes right after Google announced Lyria 3, its latest generative AI music model that works inside the Gemini app.

ProducerAI: How does it work now?

ProducerAI now operates on a preview version of Lyria 3 for music generation and Gemini for conversations. It also integrates Google’s Nano Banana model for album artwork and Veo for AI-generated music videos. All outputs are embedded with Google’s SynthID watermark to identify AI-generated content.

What has been said?

Seth Forsgren, co-founder and CEO of ProducerAI, told The Verge “the team is just scratching the surface of what these models are going to be able to do once we harness everything that Google brings to the table.” Roman, in his post, said, “It’s not a tool that you put in your prompt, roll the slot machine, and something will come out. The reality is that’s not how good music is made… and ProducerAI was really made for the back-and-forths that play out over time.”

ProducerAI’s Background:

ProducerAI was founded by Seth Forsgren and Hayk Martiros. The project originally launched in 2022 as Riffusion, an open-source AI experiment that quickly went viral. The company raised $4 million in seed funding in 2023 and later relaunched as ProducerAI in 2025, bringing on The Chainsmokers as advisors.
