The municipalities of Boom and Rumst have officially approved a new safety protocol for Tomorrowland 2026, marking a significant step forward following last year’s main stage fire.

The protocol, approved in both municipal councils on Thursday, establishes a structured framework focused on fire safety and crowd management. For all parties involved, safety remains the clear number one priority.

At the core of the agreement sits an extensive risk analysis led by a multidisciplinary team from the University of Antwerp. The study specifically targets fire risks, visitor flows, stage safety and temporary structures, while also assessing emergency access routes for first responders.

Importantly, the two local municipalities themselves imposed this protocol. At Flemish and federal level, authorities currently provide no specific fire safety guidelines for festival stages, which pushed local governments to formalize stricter procedures.

The protocol sets a hard deadline of March 31, 2026 for the preliminary risk analysis results to meet the official permitting timeline. Experts from the Rivierenland emergency zone and the Rupel local police zone will evaluate the findings before authorities decide on the final permits.

Boom and Rumst remain the competent permitting authorities for the festival grounds and DreamVille campsite, while the Province of Antwerp owns the De Schorre festival site.

Tomorrowland 2026 now moves forward under a formally approved and significantly tightened safety framework.
