Ultra Music Festival debuts battery-powered stage in Miami

Home News Ultra Music Festival debuts battery-powered stage in Miami

Ultra Music Festival will introduce a major sustainability milestone this week, as the event prepares to debut its first battery-powered stage in Miami.

Specifically, the RESISTANCE Cove Stage will operate using the zero-emission Showpower SmartGrid™ battery system. This development forms part of Ultra’s broader Mission: Home initiative, which focuses on reducing environmental impact while encouraging the global festival community to adopt more responsible practices. As a result, the stage will deliver power without any onsite fuel usage or emissions.

Previously, several Ultra Music Festival stages had already moved away from diesel generators by connecting directly to the city’s electrical grid. However, the new setup goes a step further. The battery system stores grid electricity in advance and then supplies power throughout the event, allowing the stage to operate without traditional generators. Consequently, the system reduces both fuel consumption and carbon output across the festival grounds.

According to Vivian Belzaguy Hunter, Sustainability Director at Ultra Music Festival, the initiative reflects a broader long-term strategy. “Each year, we push ourselves to think bigger, and this next chapter reflects how collaboration, innovation, and culture are coming together to create lasting impact,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Paul Schurink, co-founder of Showpower, highlighted the collaboration behind the project. “For the past six years, Showpower’s team has worked closely with Ultra and CESPower to develop intelligent and sustainable power solutions as part of Mission: Home,” he said.

Notably, the rollout marks the first time a large-scale electronic music festival in the United States has operated a stage entirely without onsite emissions.
