Ultra Music Festival looks for long term deal in Miami despite concerns of locals

Home Featured Ultra Music Festival looks for long term deal in Miami despite concerns of locals

Every March, tens of thousands of fans head to Miami, FL, for one of the biggest events in dance music, the Ultra Music Festival. Despite its status within the dance community, the event itself draws much criticism from residents.

Through the years that saw organizers bring the Ultra Music Festival to downtown Miami’s Bayfront Park, residents in the region have taken issue with the excessive noise and large amounts of attendees that take over the region for the weekend. With the park once again being prepared for the gates to open on March 27th, a recent agenda on the local Miami City Commission was set to discuss an extended contract to keep the event in place for up to 20 years. Before discussions could open, the agenda was pushed back til the end of April in order to give the public time to voice their own complaints. One resident, Laura Okamura, told CBS News, “If these commissioners could actually hear how loud it is, I know that if they were in their own homes listening to this level of noise, they would not stand for it.”

The rescheduled agenda item will take place on April 23rd, allowing residents, city officials, and Ultra leadership to review the proposed 20-year extension. With the noise of the event being at the top of the concerns for residents, the city has already placed a strict 10 pm curfew on Ultra Music Festival for Sunday night, hoping to better accommodate the event and those living in the area. This push and pull between promoters and residents has been an ongoing theme of the annual event and will surely require more negotiations and accommodations for a happy resolution to be made. Get ready for the 2026 Ultra Music Festival beginning on March 27th, and stay tuned for the outcome of the April 23rd Miami City Commission meeting where the future of the event’s location is to be discussed.
