Producer William Orbit says his Grammys arrived shattered

Electronic music producer William Orbit revealed that three of his Grammy Awards were broken during a courier shipment, turning the trophies into what he described as “a heap of brass and plastic.”

According to Orbit, the damage occurred while the awards travelled between Venice and London via DHL. The producer shared images of the broken statues on social media, showing the once-intact trophies reduced to several separate pieces after the delivery arrived.

Orbit earned the three Grammy Awards for his production work with Madonna, most notably on her influential album ‘Ray of Light’. The 1998 record blended electronic production with pop songwriting and received widespread acclaim, eventually winning multiple Grammys and becoming one of the defining albums of the era.

In his post, Orbit approached the situation with humor despite the damage. He joked that instead of three trophies, he now owns “nine broken bits of Grammys,” adding that his seven nomination medallions survived the trip intact.

The incident quickly drew attention online, with fans reacting to the unexpected sight of the shattered awards. Some expressed disbelief that such high-profile trophies could arrive in that condition, while others suggested restoration could still repair the pieces.

Regardless of the outcome, the moment offered an unusual reminder that even some of music’s most recognizable awards remain surprisingly fragile once they leave the stage.
