XLN Audio Launches Drum Butter DB-30, New Plugin from RC-20 Makers
XLN Audio has introduced a new drum-focused effects plugin, Drum Butter (DB-30). Positioned as a multi-effects processor, the plugin is designed to shape and enhance drum sounds through a combination of processing modules and workflow-oriented controls. It’s less of a mixing plugin and more of a sound design plugin.
Drum Butter centers around six effect modules that can be arranged in any order, allowing users to manipulate different aspects of drum sound design, including attack, tone, texture, space, and overall cohesion. The plugin is intended for use across a range of drum sources, including loops, patterns, recordings, individual hits, and full grooves.
A key feature of the plugin is its Focus Filters and Target Sliders, which enable users to apply processing selectively across frequency ranges or specific parts of a sound, such as transients or sustain.
The interface is designed to streamline workflows typically associated with drum processing tasks like compression and saturation. In addition to manual controls, Drum Butter includes a selection of presets aimed at providing starting points for different sonic directions, which can be further customized.
The plugin also includes a master section for global adjustments, offering additional control over the final output. Drum Butter is positioned as a companion product to RC-20 Retro Color, one of XLN Audio’s widely used effects plugins.
Initial reactions from the producer community have been mixed, with some users expressing skepticism about the release. This response largely reflects the current market landscape, where a wide range of drum processing plugins already offer similar capabilities, leading to questions around differentiation and practical use cases.
