10 Ambient and Hypnotic finds from the underground (April 2026)

Kaamin Selects returns with another edition, and this one has been a genuine pleasure to put together. For this chapter, we are joined by Innerworld, the alias of Akshay Mathker, a class selector from Goa, India. His music and his sets have always moved me.

What he does is take you from a place of moody, atmospheric tension into something more hypnotic, and eventually toward the more abstract corners of underground electronic music. The music leaves enough space for the listener to find their own path through it, and that is largely where its pull comes from.

Akshay has built a strong presence across the Asian underground circuit, with performances at festivals like Wonderfruit in Thailand and Rural Festival in Japan. For this edition, the first five tunes have been selected by Innerworld, and the next five including a mix by me.

Pajaro Dune – Cerro Tololo

The first track that came to mind was Cerro Tololo by Pajaro Dune, the alias of David Ortolà — a pianist and electronic music producer working at the intersection of classical, electronica, and jazz. His sound feels deeply rooted in these traditions, yet never confined by them; it’s fluid, introspective, and quietly expansive.

For me, this piece is less of a track and more of a moment of release. I often reach for it after building tension in a set — when the room is ready to exhale. It carries a calming, almost meditative quality that softens the body and settles the mind, creating space for people to reconnect with themselves, while still being gently held within the flow of the dancefloor.

⁠Klara – A Play Of Intimacy

Klara is a multimedia artist based in Skopje, and a former resident of the all-female techno collective Code XX. She’s been shaping some of the more forward-thinking sounds emerging from Macedonia’s underground.

A Play Of Intimacy is a track I often reach for early in my sets. It carries a minimal, groovy pulse that slowly draws people onto the dancefloor. There’s a subtle, dubby warmth to it — understated but effective.

It feels inviting without insisting, which makes it perfect for setting the tone and easing the room into motion.

Olorun – Yuki

Olorun, a French producer, first emerged under the alias Abrial, crafting dark, atmospheric techno across a series of early EPs rooted in shadowy, hypnotic textures. Over time, his sound has shifted toward something more introspective — embracing minimalism, texture, and ambient depth, guided by a search for what he describes as a sense of sweetness and purity in music.

Yuki captures this transition beautifully. It’s restrained yet deeply immersive, built around a subtle, almost tribal pulsethat feels both grounding and transportive. There’s a quiet pull to it — a gentle insistence that draws you inward while still awakening the body.

It’s a track I sometimes open my dance sets with — rooted in something primal yet delicate. A soft invitation for the room to settle in, step onto the floor, and let the rhythm take over.

Kamila Govorcin – Feel

“Feel” is one of my go-to tracks when I want to build tension in a set. It’s a bit of a secret weapon, incredibly effective in a rave setting when you need to shift the energy without losing the crowd. Kamila Govorcin is an experimental sound artist and producer from Croatia, working at the intersection of ambient, drone, and abstract electronic music. Her sound leans into texture and space, creating immersive moments that feel both hypnotic and slightly unsettling—perfect for drawing people deeper into the journey.

O.utlier – Worshipper

Worshipper is a track I reach for when I want to layer in a deeper, dub-driven groove, something that anchors the dancefloor while gently shifting it into a more immersive state. It sits beautifully in the mix, subtle yet powerful, allowing the energy to flow without becoming overwhelming.

O.utlier, a London-based live act and producer, is a resident DJ for Astral Industries and co-runs Titrate Records, a platform dedicated to drone, live recordings, and spatial sound experiments. His work consistently explores depth, space, and texture in a way that feels both physical and introspective.

Sattvagenic – Mahafractal

Released in November 2025 on Stockholm-based Aedi Records as part of the Aruq compilation, Mahafractal caught my attention straight away. The lush atmospheres in the intro lay down just the right palette before the crisp percussion work takes over. A deep, hypnotic tune that translates well on the floor but holds up just as well as a listening record at home.

bluhol – Light and Shade

Released on Oomycota, a record label from Sydney, Light and Shade keeps things simple and lets the mood do the work. The punchy beat stays minimal throughout while subtle FX and foley elements keep the listener engaged from start to finish. The synth line that drifts in during the second half ties everything together. A perfect choice for setting the tone during the early hours of a long night.

Circuit V – Astral World

Atmosphere meets psychedelia in this beautifully crafted tune from Portugal-based Circuit V. The atmospheric textures form the core of the track while psychedelic elements drift in and out as things progress. It works brilliantly as a palette cleanser on the floor, fits naturally in an opening set, and holds up just as well closing things out. Tunes like this one leave room for the listener to find their own way into it, which is where the depth lies.

Gent1e $oul – Shoals

A proper peak-time weapon from Berlin-based producer Gent1e $oul. The tune is built on heavy percussion layered over fast rolling drums, with a bassline that sits beneath and lets the percussion cut through the mix. Released in 2024 on Fast Castle, a tape and vinyl label out of South Berlin, this one was made for those dark, hypnotic nights in the middle of a forest.

Mix of the Month: rural Podcast 018 Innerworld

Released last year, this mix from Innerworld takes you through his ambient, dub techno, and halftime collection. The opening half hour is made up of dark, hypnotic downtempo tracks that build a particular mood before the bass-heavy material enters the picture. Over the course of ninety minutes, Akshay moves effortlessly between genres, but the core aesthetic and palette never shift. The consistency of feel across such a range of sounds is what makes this one worth returning to.
