Circoloco has cancelled its debut Indian edition just hours before the scheduled show. The event was set for April 19 at Jio World Garden in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex. Notably, organisers received an official cancellation order from the government the day before the event. The order cited public safety and crowd management concerns.
The lineup promised a landmark moment for Indian electronic music. Crucially, it featured a headline back-to-back from Marco Carola and Michael Bibi, alongside Mau P, Chris Stussy, ANSWER, and Jamback. The show would have run from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. In turn, many attendees had travelled specifically for the event, and artists had already landed in Mumbai.
Organisers confirmed the cancellation in an emotional statement on Instagram. “It is with deep disappointment and heavy hearts, Circoloco Mumbai will no longer be taking place,” the statement read. “After more than six months of dedicated planning, with full production in place and all artists landed in Mumbai, this decision comes just one day before the event, following an official cancellation order from the government.”
Indeed, organisers are processing full refunds for ticket holders. Meanwhile, the cancellation has sparked a wider conversation about the state of large-scale electronic events in India. For now, Circoloco and its Mumbai partners have confirmed they hope to return when the regulatory environment allows.
