Welsh street artist Steve Jenkins has immortalised Carl Cox in Cardiff. He painted a large-scale mural of the techno legend on the boardwalk beside the Principality Stadium. The piece landed days before Cox reunited with The Prodigy for a warm-up show at the Utilita Arena.
The mural places Cox front and centre. Jenkins framed the portrait with The Prodigy logo in the background and Cox’s signature “Oh yes, oh yes!” tagline running beside him. Text on the wall reads “Cardiff welcomes Carl Cox & The Prodigy 2026.”
Meanwhile, Jenkins travelled to Cardiff early one morning and completed the portrait over the course of a single day. He mocked the design up digitally first, then reproduced it at scale on the wall. In turn, he zoomed into the reference repeatedly to lock in the finer detail.
Cox caught the finished piece in person. “Someone’s actually taken the time out to do that in the honour of myself and The Prodigy,” he said, calling the likeness “pretty good.” Notably, Jenkins missed the in-person meeting and admitted he was “gutted” to have missed Cox on site.
Still, the artist left a Facebook note that captured the moment. “So cool that life allows these experiences,” he wrote. Moreover, he told BBC News the boardwalk felt like the “perfect place” for the portrait. Crucially, he called Cox’s reaction video “heartwarming.” He added, “I hope it’s made him feel a really nice, warm connection to Cardiff.”
Finally, Cox played the Utilita Arena on Sunday, April 19. He delivered a two-hour hybrid vinyl set as the warm-up to The Prodigy‘s headline gig. More UK and Ireland dates follow across the tour run.
