Thirteen years ago today, Daft Punk released 'Get Lucky' and reshaped mainstream pop music. The lead single from 'Random Access Memories' dropped on April 19, 2013. Notably, it paired the French duo with Pharrell Williams on vocals and Nile Rodgers on guitar. The combination proved instantly era-defining.

‘Get Lucky’ arrived after an eight-year album gap. Furthermore, the track opened at number one in more than 30 countries. It held the top spot on the UK Singles Chart for four weeks. Meanwhile, the song became Spotify’s most-streamed single in 2013, a milestone that announced the streaming era at scale.

The record’s disco-leaning live instrumentation pushed dance music away from big-room EDM. Instead, Rodgers’s Chic-era chord shapes and Pharrell’s hook rewired what a summer anthem could sound like. Crucially, the wider album reshaped how superstar producers approached studio craft and human performance. Homework-era rave kids and casual Top 40 listeners found the song landing for them at once.

‘Get Lucky’ went on to win Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo Performance at the 2014 Grammys. Indeed, ‘Random Access Memories’ took Album of the Year the same night. Moreover, the single earned platinum certifications across the US, UK, Canada and beyond. Its chord progression still echoes through disco-house and nu-disco productions released this year. In short, 13 years on, the track still scores summers, weddings and festival sets worldwide. Its influence runs through Dua Lipa, Jungle, Tom Misch and an entire generation of modern funk.
