Bonnier Capital acquires majority stake in Elektron

Bonnier Capital, the investment arm of Sweden’s Bonnier Group has acquired a majority stake in Elektron. According to the company, day-to-day operations will continue as usual, with their headquarters staying put in Gothenburg. The offices will also be continuing operations in Los Angeles and Berlin and the existing team will also remain in place. Financial details about the deal, however, haven’t been made public yet.

What has been said?

Investment director at Bonnier Capital, Jonas Von Hedenberg said: “Elektron has built a truly distinctive position at the intersection of technology, creativity, and music culture. Our ambition is to support Elektron’s continued growth while preserving the unique identity that has made it so respected by artists worldwide.” Elektron CEO Alexander Hellström added: “Joining Bonnier marks an exciting new chapter for Elektron. Together with Bonnier Capital, we see strong opportunities to grow further, as we expand our role in shaping the future of electronic music creation.”

What This Means for Elektron

Founded in 1998, Elektron is known for hardware instruments such as the Digitakt, Syntakt and Machinedrum. This deal adds another audio and media company to Bonnier’s acquisition catalog which also includes podcast platform Acast and AI music app Starmony. Bonnier is a family-owned media group and has been around for a long time, which might look like a more stable, long-term approach for the company’s future.

As of now, there are no immediate changes for customers. However, it could be quite compelling to see what path the company takes over the next few months.
