Icona Pop announce new album ‘Ritual’ for August 14, share single ‘Dance To This’: Listen

Icona Pop have announced their fourth studio album ‘Ritual‘, set for August 14 release via Ultra Records and Iconic Sound Recordings. Notably, the duo paired the announcement with a new single ‘Dance To This‘, out today with a music video directed by Gustav Stegfors.

The Swedish multi-platinum duo wrote ‘Ritual’ through a transformative chapter that could have ended the project entirely. Meanwhile, the album threads themes of friendship, reinvention, motherhood, heartbreak, healing and joy. Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo turn the dancefloor into a space for release across the record.

“Healing requires you to slow down and reflect, but you can’t work on yourself 24/7 forever,” Icona Pop shared. “Eventually, you have to get back out into the world and see what happens. You might mess up, but that could be exactly what you need.” The duo describe the dancefloor as a place where they find themselves and each other again.

‘Dance To This’ channels early Icona Pop energy with a sharp modern pulse. Crucially, the track was co-written by both members and produced by Sebastian Furrer. Swaggering verses, chant-ready hooks and thundering beats power the cut. Lines like “Kinda wanna burn a bridge / Kinda wanna be a bitch / Kinda wanna take a risk / Kinda wanna dance to this” capture the emotional core.

Aino added context on the production. “The production definitely reminds me of old Icona Pop,” she said. “We could perform it live, but we could also put it in a DJ set.” Furthermore, Caroline framed the song as one of those nights you find yourself by going out.

The new single follows ‘Ritual’ featuring Daya, the album’s title track which arrived earlier with its own Stegfors-directed video. Equally, that release introduced a more vulnerable side of the project.

Still, Icona Pop’s run extends across more than a decade. The 5x platinum ‘I Love It’ with Charli XCX defined their early ascent. In turn, collaborations with Joel Corry, Galantis and Sofi Tukker followed, plus their 2023 album ‘CLUB ROMANTECH’.
