iZotope releases RX 12 with new AI-powered audio repair and source separation tools

Home Tech iZotope releases RX 12 with new AI-powered audio repair and source separation tools

iZotope released RX 12, the latest version of its audio repair software suite, adding source separation tools, rebuilt machine learning modules, and interface changes across all editions.

RX is used in film, broadcast, podcast, and music production workflows for tasks including noise reduction, dialogue isolation, stem separation, and de-clicking. The software is used across post-production studios, recording environments, and by independent producers. iZotope, which is owned by Native Instruments parent company Native Instruments Group, released Tonal Balance Control 3 earlier this year.

What is new in RX 12

Scene Rebalance is new to Advanced editions. It allows independent level adjustments for dialogue, music, and effects within a single stereo render, without requiring separate stem files. iZotope describes the tool as intended for post-production situations where balance changes are needed after a mix has been delivered.

Stems View is new to Standard and Advanced editions. It introduces a track-based interface that allows the RX toolkit to be applied to individual isolated stems. Adjustments made to an isolated element can then be recombined into the full mix within the software.

Trim Silence, also new to Advanced editions, automatically detects and standardizes regions of silence in long audio files.

De-bleed has been rebuilt and no longer requires a reference track to remove headphone or instrument bleed. A real-time plugin version has been added. Breath Control has also been rebuilt with updated machine learning for breath detection and removal. Music Rebalance and Dialogue Isolate receive upgraded neural nets and new real-time plugin versions in this release.

Interface changes across all versions include a larger spectrogram, a module search function, and a resizable history panel.

Pricing and availability

RX 12 Standard is priced at $399. RX 12 Advanced is priced at $1,399. Upgrade pricing from previous versions starts at $129 for Standard and $269 for Advanced.

The release follows continued activity in the AI audio tools space. Splice added three AI tools to its platform earlier this month, and producers have been testing AI-driven music generation tools including Suno. The mastering community recently marked the passing of Chris Athens, one of the field’s most prominent engineers.
