John Summit has weighed in on the growing role of AI in music. In a recent tweet, he said he didn’t use any AI while making his upcoming album, and that’s something he’s proud of. He also floated the idea of a label on streaming platforms, similar to “organic” food, to mark music made by humans. He added that he worries this kind of work could become rare.

The comment comes just as Summit gears up to release his second album, CTRL ESCAPE, on April 15. It’s part of a bigger run in 2026 that also includes major festival slots and his own event, Experts Only Festival.

The use of AI in music has expanded rapidly. Platforms such as Suno report millions of tracks being generated, while tools from companies like ElevenLabs now allow users to create full songs from text prompts.

At the same time, parts of the industry are pushing back. Discussions are ongoing around how AI-generated music should be counted on charts, and whether it should be categorized separately. Some companies are developing systems that allow artists to train AI models on their own work, framing the technology as an assistive tool rather than a replacement.

Within electronic music, software has always been part of the process, so the line isn’t so clear. Producers have relied on tools for decades to shape their sound. What feels different now is how much AI can take over. It can handle parts of composition, sound design, even arrangement, with very little input. That shifts both the process and the speed at which music gets made.

Summit’s idea of a labeling system comes down to transparency. Right now, streaming platforms don’t show whether a track involves AI or not. As more of this music enters the system, that gap is likely to become harder to ignore.
