Home Featured Journalist exposes how easy it is to bypass Suno’s copyright safeguards

A report by Terrence O’Brien for The Verge has put Suno’s copyright safeguards under scrutiny, showing how easily they can be bypassed. Using simple tweaks in Audacity, such as altering tempo or adding short bursts of noise, copyrighted tracks can slip past detection and be used as the foundation for AI-generated outputs.

O’Brien tested the process on tracks like Freedom by Beyoncé and Paranoid by Black Sabbath, noting that once inside Suno Studio, those alterations can be reversed. The result is output that sits very close to the original in arrangement and feel. Even lyric safeguards appear inconsistent, with minor spelling changes enough to bypass filters and generate vocals that mirror the source.

The bigger issue isn’t just that these gaps exist, it’s how accessible they are. As platforms like Suno position themselves as tools for mass creativity, the same accessibility makes misuse trivial. With AI models improving faster than the systems designed to police them, the gap between policy and practice is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
