Manchester Airport unveils Haçienda-themed bar with DJ sets for travellers
Waiting for a flight could soon feel more like stepping into a nightclub, as Manchester Airport prepares to open a Haçienda-inspired bar in Terminal 2.
The newly redesigned Amber Alehouse pays tribute to the legendary Haçienda nightclub, one of the most influential venues in the history of electronic music. The club, which operated between 1982 and 1997, played a key role in shaping the UK’s acid house and rave culture during the late 1980s.
Set to open later this year, the bar will host occasional guest DJ sets for travellers, allowing passengers to experience live music before boarding their flights. Outside of those appearances, the venue will feature DJ-curated playlists designed to recreate the atmosphere of the original club.
Design elements throughout the bar reference the iconic venue, including flooring inspired by the Haçienda’s famous yellow-and-black graphics, alongside framed vinyl records and photographs celebrating Manchester’s musical heritage.
The space also highlights the city’s cultural legacy, with imagery of Manchester acts such as Oasis and The Stone Roses featured on the walls.
Meanwhile, the drink menu continues the theme. Visitors will find cocktails named after famous Haçienda-era artists and bands, including drinks inspired by Happy Mondays and New Order. Last year, Haçienda shared a classic mix archive featuring sets by Armand Van Helden, Frankie Knuckles and more.
Airport officials say the concept aims to transform the typical airport experience into something more memorable. Rather than waiting in a standard departure lounge, passengers could soon enjoy DJ sets, cocktails and a slice of Manchester’s legendary club culture before their journey even begins.
