Record Store Day UK 2026 sales jump 25% in record-breaking year

Home Featured Record Store Day UK 2026 sales jump 25% in record-breaking year

Record Store Day UK 2026 saw sales jump 25% on the previous year. Notably, the figure marks the biggest edition in the event’s 19-year history. More than 300 independent record shops across the UK took part in the Saturday, April 18 rollout. Live performances, signings and DJ sets ran across the day.

The headline figure comes from the Entertainment Retailers Association. Meanwhile, the broader UK vinyl market also continues to climb. ERA data shows vinyl grew 18.6% in value last year. Over 7.5 million discs sold and 238 million GBP in revenue.

Brighton’s Resident Music called Saturday its biggest ever. In turn, the days following the event also smashed the store’s post-RSD records. The online after-party added another bumper boost.

Crucially, Record Store Day continues to function as both commercial event and cultural anchor. Independent shops anchor the offline music economy, and the day reframes vinyl as a community ritual rather than a niche purchase. Furthermore, electronic-leaning labels and dance music releases featured across the official 2026 list.

Olivia Dean, Elton John, PinkPantheress and dozens of other artists released exclusive RSD pressings this year. Equally, the slate spans rock, pop, hip-hop, electronic and reissue catalogues. The mix has helped widen the day’s appeal beyond legacy collectors.

Still, the 25% jump reflects momentum across the wider physical music market. Vinyl has now outgrown CDs in value terms in the UK for several years running. In short, the format’s revival is no longer a comeback story, it is the established baseline.

Sheffield record shops also reported their biggest Record Store Day yet. Moreover, regional independent stores from Leeds to Bristol flagged record-breaking footfall and sell-throughs across the weekend.

Finally, Record Store Day 2027 dates will roll out on the official channels later in the year. The 25% lift sets a high bar for the next edition, with vinyl pressing capacity and exclusive title curation likely to remain key levers heading into the next cycle.
