SoundCloud rolls out follower-exclusive releases with Chris Stussy for Early Access Drops
SoundCloud has introduced Follower Exclusive Releases, allowing Artist Pro users to share tracks only with their followers, either for a limited time or indefinitely. The feature builds on SoundCloud’s core behaviour, where fans actively engage through comments, reposts, and direct messages, often influencing how tracks evolve.
Launching with Chris Stussy, who is previewing “What makes you Feel” ahead of his upcoming album, the feature formalizes a practice many artists already follow: testing music within their core audience before a wider release.
For producers, this functions as a controlled feedback loop. Early demos, works-in-progress, or alternate versions can be shared directly with engaged listeners, helping shape the final output while building momentum organically.
At a platform level, this reinforces SoundCloud’s focus on community-driven discovery, in contrast to algorithm-heavy ecosystems like Spotify. Instead of relying purely on playlists, artists can now prioritize their existing audience as the first touchpoint in the release cycle.
Follower Exclusive Releases won’t replace traditional distribution, but they introduce a structured way to bridge the gap between creation and release, turning early access into a deliberate part of an artist’s rollout strategy.
