The Temper Trap announce new album ‘Sungazer’, their first studio record in a decade
After nearly a decade away from the album format, The Temper Trap have officially announced their long-awaited fourth studio album ‘Sungazer’, set for release on July 10.
First, the band shared the emotional title track ‘Sungazer’, offering fans an early glimpse into the sonic direction of the upcoming record. The track highlights the group’s signature blend of atmospheric indie rock, soaring melodies and expansive production while introducing new electronic textures influenced by the band’s recent creative journeys.
Meanwhile, ‘Sungazer’ marks the group’s first full-length album since 2016’s ‘Thick As Thieves’. Over the past decade, the members stepped away from touring and recording to explore personal projects and creative growth. During that period, frontman Dougy Mandagi moved to Berlin, where he immersed himself in the city’s electronic music scene before later returning to Indonesia.
Eventually, the band reunited and began exchanging demos across continents before reconvening in Melbourne to record the album together. The result is a project that moves between introspective moments and powerful, full-band catharsis.
For Mandagi, the title track holds a particularly personal meaning. He wrote ‘Sungazer’ as a message to his son Ziggy, describing the song as a promise to stand beside him throughout his life.
Alongside the album announcement, The Temper Trap also confirmed that they will support Muse on their North American tour this July and August, while additional festival appearances will include Outside Lands, Summerfest, and National Saloon.
With ‘Sungazer’, the band now returns with renewed creative energy and a record shaped by years of personal and artistic transformation. Pre-order here.
