Arturia Memory V brings the Memorymoog to your DAW

The Memorymoog was Moog Music’s most ambitious polyphonic instrument and its last before the company declared bankruptcy in 1987. Its architecture — three oscillators per voice, a 24dB ladder filter, and dedicated voice cards — placed it alongside the Prophet-5 and OB-Xa as one of the defining polysynths of the early 1980s. It was also notoriously unstable, with complex circuitry that required constant maintenance. Memory V is only the third commercially available software emulation of the instrument, following Cherry Audio’s Memorymode and Memorymoon.

Arturia built the plugin using its TAE® component-level modelling technology, modelling the original oscillators, ladder filter, mixer, drive, and analog non-linearities per voice. The front panel reproduces the original Memorymoog layout closely, including the three oscillators, the filter section, and the LFO. A Vintage knob and a fold-out Dispersion panel allow users to dial in continuous analog drift across pitch, pulse width, cutoff, and envelope times, from clinical precision to deliberately unstable vintage behaviour.

Key highlights

• Triple-oscillator architecture: Three free-running VCOs per voice with stackable Ramp, Triangle, and Square waveforms, pulse width modulation, and oscillator sync (1↔2 and 1↔3). OSC 3 can function as an audio-rate modulator for FM-style movement.
• Ladder filter with extended options: The 24dB low-pass ladder filter can be switched to 12dB slope. A Bass Compensation switch preserves low-end weight at high resonance settings, addressing a known weakness of the original hardware.
• Expanded polyphony: Memory V offers both the original Poly 6 and an expanded Poly 12 mode. Unison with detune and stereo spread is also available, stacking all six triple-VCO voices for 18 oscillators from a single key press.
• Advanced modulation: Three modulator slots in the Advanced panel accept ADSR envelopes, function generators, voice modulators, modulation sequencers, or random generators, with drag-and-drop routing to most parameters.
• Multi-Arp: Up to four independent arpeggiator layers, each with its own mode, rhythm, and gate settings, for polymetric patterns and evolving melodic movement.
• FX rack: Four configurable slots drawing from 17+ effects including Juno-style chorus, tape delay, and reverbs. All effects can be bypassed in a single click.
• MPE support: Full MPE compatibility with aftertouch, release velocity, and keyboard tracking assignable to any parameter via the Advanced panel.
• 300+ presets: Factory library covering vintage brass, basses, cinematic pads, evolving textures, and modern electronic tones. All original Memorymoog presets are included for direct comparison.

Memory V is the first plugin in what Arturia is positioning as the lead-in to V Collection 12. Existing V Collection users have access to discounted upgrade pricing through their Arturia account. The plugin also connects to Arturia’s Astrolab Stage synthesizer, with Memory V sounds set to be available on that hardware platform. The V Collection bundle, which now includes Memory V alongside V Collection 11 Pro, is priced at $699.
