Boards of Canada share new tracks ‘Introit’ and ‘Prophecy at 1420 MHz’ from ‘Inferno’: Listen

Boards of Canada have shared two new tracks, ‘Introit’ and ‘Prophecy at 1420 MHz’, as the first official cuts from upcoming album ‘Inferno’. The pair now serves as the opening two tracks on the album, arriving ahead of the May 29 release on Warp.

Boards of Canada have built one of the most patient catalogues in modern electronic music, and ‘Introit’ lives up to the wait. First, the track opens the album with a nostalgic synth arpeggio that sounds like a machine powering up, blooming into focus before dissolving into an ambient crawl that bridges into the second cut.

Then ‘Prophecy at 1420 MHz’ picks up the energy with a mid-tempo drum beat, roomy synths and a ghosted vocal sitting in the haze. The combination keeps the recognisable Boards of Canada signature: warm, analogue-leaning textures pulled across cold, slightly ominous structures.

Notably, ‘Inferno’ marks the duo’s first studio album in 13 years. The electronic scene has long anticipated the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest’. After teasing through 2025, the duo finally announced the project in late April 2026. The album lands May 29 via Warp Records.

Also on the calendar, Boards of Canada host seven album premiere events on May 22, dubbed ‘The Inferno Sessions’. The simultaneous parties then run in Tokyo, Berlin, Barcelona, London, Glasgow, New York and Los Angeles, with fans hearing the full record one week ahead of the public release date.

Plus, the two tracks come with a video by Robert Beatty, the visual artist who has long collaborated with Boards of Canada on their cover art and visual identity. The video carries the same hazy, sci-fi-leaning aesthetic the duo have built across their career.

Still, ‘Tape 05’, the duo’s first new music in 13 years, which surfaced in late April — will not appear on ‘Inferno’. The new album exists separately from that drop, which functioned more as a teaser than a tracklist preview.
