Cyma Forma and French electronic artist Bambounou have announced the RND, a hardware synthesizer operated by a single button that randomises every parameter on press. It is priced at €125 plus VAT and ships in late June 2026.

Pressing the button generates a complete musical idea built from up to four simultaneous instruments, each drawing from one of eight synthesis engines and running its own euclidean sequence. Every press sets all parameters to new random values, producing a sound that exists only until the next press. The total number of possible states is 4,294,967,296 — over four billion distinct outputs.

The eight synthesis engines cover subtractive, FM, acid, noise, speech, Karplus-Strong, supersaw, and additive synthesis. Audio output is four-track over USB-C, with one channel per instrument recorded pre-reverb, plus a stereo mix output post-reverb. MIDI runs across four channels in and out, with analog sync also available. Twenty scales and five filter types are selectable per patch.

The concept inverts typical synthesis workflow. There is no preset browser, no recall, no parameter editing — only the button and whatever arrives. Bambounou, who records on the Infiné label and is known for unconventional sound design, is the credited collaborator on the instrument’s design. Cyma Forma is presenting the RND at Superbooth 2026 in Berlin, running May 7 to 9.

The RND is available to preorder now via the Cyma Forma website at €125 plus VAT, with shipping expected in late June 2026.
