The 2006 set is widely considered one of the most important live moments in modern electronic music. The pyramid stage, the helmets, the ‘One More Time’ breakdown, all of it set the template that every major dance show since has been benchmarked against. The newly shared clip features ‘One More Time’ running over crowd footage from the night.

Ed Banger Records, the label run by Pedro Winter who managed Daft Punk at the time, posted alongside the duo with their own archive. “Exactly 20 years ago today, Coachella 2006. Who was there?” the label wrote. “Forever grateful to the Daft Punk robots for the best time of our life. No iPhone yet, enjoy my Sony handycam shots.”

The fan reaction in the comments has tied the legacy directly to current festival production. One commenter pointed at this year’s Coachella Quasar stage, calling out how directly Daft Punk’s “small design” set the bar that contemporary stages still chase.

The 2006 show also helped launch the Ed Banger generation of French electronic artists, including Justice, who carried the lineage forward through their own Coachella sets in the years that followed.

Daft Punk‘s 2006 Coachella set is now a living reference point, two decades on, and the fresh archive footage from both sides of the booth is currently spreading across electronic music feeds.
