For DJ Matrix, the idea of a “comeback” doesn’t quite fit the traditional narrative. After nearly 40 years away from releasing music, he launched his comeback in August of 2025 with “Hypnotic,” featuring the legendary Egyptian Lover. Now, in 2026, he has just released the remastered “Feel My Bass (Reloaded),” with another single, “Drift Away,” scheduled to drop in the coming weeks on June 5. His story is far from over.

Before any of this, music entered his life as an environment. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, he was surrounded by sound at home through his mother, a singer who had performed alongside artists such as Marvin Gaye and The O’Jays. The early exposure gave him an unfiltered view of musicianship, where rehearsal, discipline, and expression were part of everyday life.

The Moment Everything Shifted

The direction of his life began to change when he saw Egyptian Lover perform live for the first time. It wasn’t just the performance itself, but the control and innovation happening behind the scenes that left a lasting impression. That moment reframed what music could be: technology, movement, and audience energy working together in real time.

Shortly after, hearing “Egypt, Egypt” on the radio pushed that inspiration into action. He began experimenting with sound, eventually working his way toward drum machines and production without formal training. The process came naturally, but what stayed with him most was the reaction.

“That’s when I realized I could actually move people,” he said. “Once I felt that, I didn’t look back.”

Early Momentum and an Abrupt Pause

That realization led to early releases like “It’s Time to Rock” and “Feel My Bass,” tracks rooted in physical energy and rhythm rather than traditional songwriting structure. They were designed for movement first, identity second, and they helped establish DJ Matrix’s place in the Miami Bass and Electro landscape.

But just as momentum began building, life redirected his path. Military service, combined with the responsibilities of supporting a growing family, made it increasingly difficult to continue pursuing a professional music career. Eventually, the decision became permanent. By the mid-1990s, he had stepped away entirely, sold his equipment, and transitioned into a completely different phase of life.

A Legacy That Continued Without Him

What DJ Matrix didn’t know was that his music never fully stopped moving. Over the years, his early tracks began resurfacing online, circulating through underground communities and eventually reaching new generations of listeners who had no context for when the music was originally created.

When he eventually encountered it again decades later, the reaction surprised him. Not because it was popular, but because it had endured.

“I thought that chapter was over,” he said. “But people were still listening. Still connecting. That changed how I saw everything.”

Reconnection and a Return to Purpose

Around the same period, Egyptian Lover reached out after nearly 40 years. The same artist who had once influenced his entire musical direction was now reconnecting with him in a completely different era. The timing reinforced something he was already beginning to feel, a return to music.

That perspective also shaped his approach to new music. Instead of trying to replicate the past, he focused on working within the present. His new single “Drift Away” was created in less than a week, driven by experimentation and a willingness to explore house-influenced sounds while still grounded in rhythm-focused production.

Two Identities, One Creative Continuum

To reflect this evolution, he has introduced a second creative identity in House Of Neo, dedicated to his house and broader EDM productions. DJ Matrix remains tied to his original Miami Bass and Electro foundation, while House Of Neo allows him to explore new styles without abandoning his roots.

He sees both identities as part of the same continuum, just different expressions of a single creative path shaped by time, experience, and change.

A Return Defined by Perspective, Not Nostalgia

Now approaching 60, DJ Matrix enters a vastly different industry than the one he left behind. The tools have changed, audiences have expanded globally, and electronic music has fragmented into countless subgenres. Still, his approach remains grounded in the same principle that started it all: creating music that connects on a physical and emotional level.

“I feel like I’ve been given another chance to do what I love,” he said.

With “Feel My Bass (Reloaded)” now out and the forthcoming “Drift Away,” DJ Matrix’s return isn’t framed as a revival of the past, but as a continuation shaped by everything that came after it. His story now exists in two timelines, one that began in the early days of Miami Bass, and another decades later, carrying forward the same core intention: to move people through sound.
