fabric Records release VA compilation ‘fabric SELECTS VII’: Listen
fabric Records released the VA compilation ‘fabric SELECTS VII’ yesterday. The 14-track collection came out on the fabric Originals imprint, leaning into UK garage and bass music with cuts from emerging and established names across the scene. DJ Q’s ‘Lose My Cool’ opens the compilation, and Ghoulish’s ‘This Bassline Smells Like Oil’ takes the focus track slot.
DJ Q’s lead cut runs through early 2000s UKG via a speed garage lens — rolling bassline, shuffled percussion, autotuned vocals. The fabric Originals series built fabric SELECTS VII around a wider set of contributors: Bodhi, 1111, Gemi, Kori, Daffy, Pj Bridger, Eloquin & Reimond, SEMPA, TARZI, Me & George, Jessi Lowkey, Lash, anse., and KAISUI.
Also, Ghoulish’s focus track sits at the heart of the record. The cut runs on a murky, gritty bassline with industrial texture, carrying the darker tone that threads across the compilation. Then 1111 brings a melodic edge with sped-up vocal chops, Bodhi rolls a head-down approach, Eloquin & Reimond drift into atmospheric bass territory, and KAISUI closes out the compilation with a slow-burning low-end cut.
Plus, fabric Originals launched fabric SELECTS in 2022 as a series focused on original tracks from underground artists rather than traditional DJ mixes. The London club has run fabric Records since 1999, with the label spanning fabric Originals, FABRICLIVE, and Houndstooth across underground sound. Now stream ‘fabric SELECTS VII’ via fabric Records.
