Mike D announces first ever European tour dates under Mike D 5D banner
Mike D has announced his first ever European headline run under the Mike D 5D banner. The tour kicks off in London on June 5 and runs through to Paris on June 20. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 15 at 10am local time.
Notably, the dates take the same off-the-radar approach as his recent sold-out Los Angeles pop-ups. Mike D played the Plaza Club & Dance Hall and Sid The Cat last week, both selling out instantly. Rolling Stone described those shows as “embodied with the punk energy that led to his band’s early breakthrough.”
Then come the European venues. The full Mike D 5D run includes two nights at 26 Leake St in London on June 5 and 6, Saalchen in Berlin on June 10, Primavera Sound Festival in Porto on June 13, Beyond The Pale Festival in Wicklow, Ireland on June 14, La 2 de Apolo Nitsa in Barcelona on June 16, Blender at Bolwerk in Kortrijk on June 18, De Casino in Sint-Niklaas on June 19, and Beyond The Streets in Paris on June 20.
Crucially, the announcement follows the surprise release of his debut solo single ‘Switch Up’. The track marks his first new music since Beastie Boys’ final album. NME called it “infectious.” Billboard framed it as “a heady mashup of U.K. jungle beats, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry-like sonic collage and digital hardcore attitude.”
Plus, the European venues match the spirit of his return. Intimate, unconventional spaces sit at the centre of the booking strategy. Mike D has also teased that more news will follow soon.
